in sweden, the state has intentionally tied its hands in regards to most other interventions in the labour market, but make no mistake, welfare policy is also an intervention, and a crucial one. if out-of-work benefits are generous, employers have to offer good wages to compete.

i wish social democratic politicians would have a fucking spine and stand up for their own voters' actual interests, rather than trying to play an inevitably losing optics game, which actually benefits business. if the social democrats fuck up on this then fire them into the sun.
