you ever think about how video game cartridges aren't strictly ROMs any more. flash is cheaper than mask ROMs and has been for a long time. those carts are gonna die someday
apparently 3DS game cards' flash storage have an auto-repair (“refresh”) functionality built-in that may be able to fix broken cards if they haven't been out of use for too long, see: https://gbatemp.net/threads/corrupted-cartridge-fixer-release.628539/
