oh my god there is an æsthetic/philosophical/technical commonality between my interests in General MIDI and in fixed-function 3D rendering pipelines. help. i am too good at a certain kind of meta-thinking

it does mean though that if i come up with some sort of Justification for why this is The Correct Way i could kind of effortlessly transfer it though, which is probably not a good thing lmao
i think what i'm saying is i like ways of creating art that ground you, where the technology itself constrains what you do in certain fundamental ways, allowing you to fully express yourself in others without suffering choice paralysis
another way to put this is that everything i put out would make no sense whatsoever if unconstrained. it would be purely psychedelic

@estelle precisely! i came to essentially the same thought through a different lens: i don't like the algorithmic relating of all content by proximity, because this is ultimately destructive of contextual meaning
@hikari this is consistent with all of the attempts that we ourselves have made to relearn "creative" skills which have actually gotten anywhere
@hikari in fact, if we were to be much more charitable than normal, this seems to be what the worst teachers we had in the compulsory schooling system were attempting to convey with their unsatisfiable assignments
unfortunately, they wouldn't actually ever be honest and upfront about what they were doing
