okay, here's a thought: i'm sure that a lot of old folks with dementia or whatever can't tell what is and isn't ai slop
But i think a lot of them are probably desperately lonely and the fact it's slop no longer matters to them
and that should be more concerning, honestly
this thought brought to you by me seeing a mutual retweet something i really look down on, slop but not of the ai variety, and realising… you know, it still provokes a feeling in me, and if the fire had started to go out in me, i'd succumb too
can you not hear the desparate screaming that lies behind that kind of nostalgic meme? the attempt to connect to something, anything, to break through the fog and distance and touch the heart? even if the creator is utterly soulless, the creation has half a soul in the reader
the tragedy of our times is not that good things are rare, it's that so many of us are isolated, swimming in garbage and unable to jump out, and even the sweetness of poison will feel appealing if there's nothing better that passes you by
