jump to expanded postthis feels embarrassingly obvious but i must tweet it so i commit to it because it's half my problems: if you must stay up longer than the other person in your bed, for the love of yourself don't do it by lying in bed staring at a smartphone, get up and leave the room if you must
i'm not kidding when i say it's half my problems. genuinely. this has been possibly my single most personally destructive habit. literally thousands of hours of my life have been wasted in this manner
i guess this is why some married couples sleep in separate rooms. i bet that's really common for artists specifically
i think living in the same space as another person can be a truly wonderful thing in the right circumstances, but you must be careful that you think about how you are each compromising yourselves to do it, and make sure they're the right compromises. it can't be unconscious
2024 feels like it was a disaster for me in some respects but spending half the year in effect almost single again let me finally realise some of my unconscious habits were killing me
@hikari i wish to make an alternate suggestion: when you spend long periods staring at your smartphone because you have nothing else to do, don't stare at online social media, stare at ebooks. if u r in north america download "libby"
@mcc oh i can very much agree with this! when i find myself doing that on a computer, my answer now is βwatch animeβ, but a smartphone isn't suited to thatβ¦
an ereader with a gentle backlight would probably be kinder on the eyes for this though
