jump to expanded postbrb watching some very zoomer direct-to-netflix movie
doing us special psychic damage by picking swedish subtitles instead of english (rare "advantage" of a direct-to-netflix movie)
oh god, the pacing is so zoomer that we're noticing that our brain comprehends spoken japanese faster than subtitled swedish
her friends ask her about her 進路 and they translate it as ”Iroha, vilka college söker du till?”
what the fuck. using “college” here in Swedish is very bizarre unless they're talking about studying in the US or UK? this implies bad things about the translation process. bleak
this anime is pretty, sure, but we're 21 minutes in and everything has been so incredibly fast-paced and dense that none of it… is able to reach through, really? there's no chance for it to soak in and get to you, it's ThingsAreConstantlyHappeningAndTheyKeepHappeningNoDowntime
the visual design of “Roblox, Japan” is so hyperstimulating (derogatory?) we don't have words for it
it's chasing the same hyperstimulating ideal the AI image generators are chasing and while this is clearly the work of human hands with some remaining amount of taste it is… it is just So Much man. this reminds me of Summer Wars and not in a good way
okay if this film doesn't calm down a bit in the next ten minutes I think I'm dropping it and then watching something far more soulful to detox
actually I think I need a break already. I'm kind of longing to go for one of those long night walks in gentle solitude at this point, but I'm just sitting here eating an apple. I'll resume in a few minutes
suddenly I'm typing like we're overly caffeinated or manic or something, did our brain speed up to try to keep pace with this movie, christ
I watched one minute more of the movie and I got to the bit where Iroha plays something on her keyboard for Kaguya, and… well, I do want to see where that goes, so we'll give the movie a bit more of a chance, but… not today, for sure.
paused at 38:40, total runtime is 2:22:03
okay, picking Chou Kaguya-hime back up again, let's see how this goes
no sooner does it feel like things might be slowing down a bit and there might be an emotional moment, they're like “time's up! back to montage!”
okay we're now past the half-way point (1:11:01) and have seen the big video game fight sequence. I'm not finding it intolerable but it doesn't feel like it's getting through to me really
gonna make food and then continue
that was a long break but we continue!
whoa everything is so fluidly animated, there's so much motion
🌕
…huh
what a fascinating film
the second half of it is quite different
everything about it felt so painfully 2020's and then right near the end it smacks us in the face by having a plot twist that's very late-1990's-to-late-2000's sci-fi, and makes me see it as more utopian than cynical
this is not the second coming of yuri christ and i'm really not sure if it actually deserves to be called a good movie, but it was… interesting?
