jump to expanded postholy shit LinuxJournal is just total AI slop now and I don't mean that in any exaggerated way, there's an article “about” loss32 that is entirely hallucinated statements about what loss32 is that have no resemblance to anything written on the website, it's un-fucking-believable
seriously just read this https://web.archive.org/web/20260112165115/https://www.linuxjournal.com/content/introducing-loss32-new-lightweight-linux-distro-focus-legacy-hardware
and then read what would ostensibly be the source https://web.archive.org/web/20260101003131/https://loss32.org/
can you see where any of the statements come from? no? yeah that's because they were pulled out of a chatbot's arse and zero fact-checking was done, period
I'm actually pissed off about this article because it hallucinates a project that has exactly the opposite goals to the real project, which is kind of a nightmare when you consider the importance of first impressions. it's not defamation but frankly I think we deserve an apology
my only guess is that the chatbot only got the name (and potentially the screenshot) of your project
@hikari that's horrible. It's really obvious that it's AI slop too, has that formulaic style with everything built out of lists and bullet points
@hikari lol even by AI standards this is bad. Like this is the shit that ChatGPT came up two years ago with no access to the internet or any external resources.
@guenther yeah exactly. I'm kind of fascinated, these days major services seem to do a web search whether you like it or not, so I wonder how on earth they got it
@hikari yep, shared a bunch of articles that ended up being hallucinated.
I used to buy that magazine in the 2000s. Sad ending.
@jbz @hikari the physical magazine was good in its day, and when they switched to digital-only, I cancelled my subscription. I understand the financial-pressures that led to shuttering the print copies, but I wanted something I could read at the park or in the bathroom without a device. It went downhill pretty quickly from there and has largely become a cesspool of uselessness.
@hikari put them on a list, check them twice. We got to find out who's naughty or nice.
AI slop is bringing them down.
@hikari "George Whittaker" was also the "author" of that other article people were panning today, about Alpine Linux and systemd
@hikari @tab2space Is this loss?
