jump to expanded post“Steamed Hams but it was banned in the USSR” is, of course, yet another play on that goddamn Simpsons sketch, but… it’s so high-effort, so lovingly crafted, so well-executed, it’s… transcendent.
please watch it.
…how had I forgotten that I had watched Glass Harmonica before, and how does it not have an English Wikipedia page?
well, I’ve now ensured it’s mentioned on the page about the instrument, at least. I’m not entirely sure if the instrument in that film is the instrument the page describes, but the basic concept seems similar enough
@hikari I made this a lot more confusing for myself than necessary by first watching the parody and then the original sketch (which I had seen snippets of, but never the full thing, so I had no idea what was going on)
@neoraider I expected it’d be like that! given it imitates a wordless, abstract style of animation, the legibility of the plot kind of relies on you being familiar with Steamed Hams… though some of the important parts are clear either way
@hikari very well crafted, but I must admit I was a little disappointed that it reduced the whole "at this time of day, in this part of the country, localised entirely within your kitchen" sequence into a single vocal burp, despite much more elaborate representation of the less impactful interactions. perhaps they ran out of time/energy toward the end of the project.
