jump to expanded postthe screenshot and the “““typing quirk””” are a hint as to what i am doing this is fantastically fun so far
holy shit it's so pretty
if ritsu wanted me to join a band i don't think i could refuse
watching k-on's first episode without subtitles has very much slowed down the experience but i have been having a good time i can tell you that
cool things about learning japanese by looking up words one by one and adding them to an anki deck: the order they're presented in becomes a hint as to their meaning if you remember how the episode went
btw coolest things i learned so far were:
- as a germanic language (/s) japanese has a word for everything. it not only has a noun for “dissolution of a club” (廃部) but also “on the verge of dissolution of a club” (廃部寸前)
- there's an ateji for クラブ ENDING IN 部 (倶楽部)
- oh, 入部希望者 is a fantastic one too. join-club-{prospect/hope}-er. hanzi really is unrivalled for word formation potential. move over germany
it's easy to learn japanese by watching anime. first just have already learned all the kana and the principles of the grammar fifteen years ago, and have been slowly acquiring bits and pieces over the years, but be someone who can't follow a course plan to save her own life,
tragically one of the main things i'm learning is that i hate anki's ui
me trying not to seem out of place around my far more musically literate friends
i finished rewatching the first episode of k-on!
m-mio is so cool………
time to resume rewatching k-on without subtitles (let's hope i can manage one episode per week?), episode 2 this time
WAIT THE K-ON OP HAS A SHOT SHOWING OFF THE VALVE GLOW ON THE KORG TRITON
HOW MUCH MONEY DID THEY GIVE THEM
i've always thought korg putting actual fucking vacuum tubes in their otherwise completely digital products was a somewhat absurd gimmick feature; clearly the kyoani-korg propaganda couldn't affect me before because i didn't know what i was looking at
the unbelievable cuteness of mio-chan………
studying my anki decks is a much more rewarding use of time than scrolling twitter i can tell you that
i finally got to the bit where they're in the music store, i get to stare at the pretty musical instruments, yesss
the yui in the music store thing is real it happened to me
is akiyama mio the peak of moë? experts are still debating this
交通量調査
that's the first long kango i've decided not to add to my flashcards lmao
with any luck i might finish watching this episode tomorrow (lmao) (i am learning a lot) (starting to be glad i picked k-on and not haruhi to rewatch in this fashion, trying to understand koizumi or nagato would've murdered me)
いろんな人から余るほどお菓子を貰う家って
職業病
god this is a lot of fun and i am learning an immense amount even if it does make the watching process take an absurdly long time (also it's fun because my gf is better at japanese verb conjugations than me and i can ask her for a second opinion when i struggle to hear something)
going to 10GIÄ you guys want anything
do you think they're gonna manage the budoukan live in only 1065 days
i've now rewatched two episodes of k-on! ehehe~
even though akiyama mio is 背が高い, for her ハードルが高い
time for the third episode…
me and my girlfriend in despair as the most plot-critical line in the episode is spoken with no context by yui with food in her mouth
「追試の人は、合格点とるまで部活動禁止だって」
(alas i cannot claim credit for managing to transcribe that myself, i only managed to get 10/20 moji)
the struggle of trying to focus on other, more important things when you have a pretty guitar staring at you…
four episodes into improving my japanese by watching k-on without subtitles, this continues to be fun and rewarding, and also:
- mio is hard to understand because her speech is too complicated
- ritsu is hard to understand because her speech is too simple
- yui's mouth is full,
important mio moment
feels like a milestone that i can fully appreciate a scene like that now, in real time (i did look up a few words the first run through, but not enough that i'm lost and having to impose a separately remembered whole-sentence translation onto it, if that makes sense)
@hikari ok but why doesn't anki just put an interactable version of some due flashcards on the timeline every now and then? :D
@hikari you know I've watched it so much that I think I'm taking it for granted, but k-on really just might be when moe peaked.
@hikari I never realised until now that ritsu didn't have a floor tom
@shift_reset oh yeah. the drumkit looks so… slim
@hikari According to someone on the internet (the k-on wiki), it appears to be based on the rick marotta signature kit. This kit is interesting because it was designed so that all the other drums fit in the bass drum for transport, so yeah, it is about as slim as you could really get.
